Our Mission

At Palo Alto Networks® everything starts and ends with our mission:

Being the cybersecurity partner of choice, protecting our digital way of life.
Our vision is a world where each day is safer and more secure than the one before. We are a company built on the foundation of challenging and disrupting the way things are done, and we’re looking for innovators who are as committed to shaping the future of cybersecurity as we are.

Who We Are

We believe collaboration thrives in person. That’s why most of our teams work from the office full time, with flexibility when it’s needed. This model supports real-time problem-solving, stronger relationships, and the kind of precision that drives great outcomes.

Your Career

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-stage Engineering Manager to lead a team building internal cloud, SDLC, and AI enablement platforms that improve developer productivity, reliability, and operational efficiency across the organization.
You will manage a team of engineers delivering core platform capabilities spanning CI/CD, Git workflows, artifact management, observability, and AI-assisted developer tooling, while owning day-to-day execution, people leadership, and operational health.

Your Impact

Team Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage and mentor a team of 5–8 software engineers
  • Own sprint planning, execution, and delivery for assigned platform domains
  • Maintain delivery quality, predictability, and technical excellence
  • Balance feature delivery with platform stability, operations and tech-debt reduction
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and career guidance to team members

Technical Execution (Hands-on Leadership)

  • Stay hands-on to build, guide system design, architecture, and code reviews
  • Review and validate designs for scalability, reliability, and security
  • Guide engineers through debugging and resolving complex production issues
  • Ensure strong engineering standards across code, tests, and documentation

SDLC & Developer Productivity Platforms
Own and evolve internal platforms supporting the end-to-end developer lifecycle, including:
Source Control & Git Workflows

  • Standardized Git workflows (branching, PRs, reviews, approvals)
  • PR automation (checks, policy enforcement, CI triggers)
  • Developer experience improvements around repo templates and tooling

CI/CD & Build Systems

  • Shared CI/CD capabilities:
    • Linting and code-quality gates
    • Unit, integration, and security tests
    • Reusable pipeline templates
  • Integration with build systems and deployment pipelines
  • Enable faster feedback loops and safer releases

Artifact & Dependency Management

  • Ownership of artifact repositories (container images, binaries, packages)
  • Standardization of:
    • Base images
    • Versioning strategies
    • Promotion across environments
  • Governance around artifact retention, security scanning, and provenance

Platform Security & Governance

  • Integrate security controls into the SDLC:
    • Static and dependency scanning
    • Image vulnerability scanning
    • Policy-as-code where applicable
  • Ensure secure defaults without harming developer velocity
  • Partner with security teams on compliance and best practices

AI Enablement & Automation

  • Deliver platform features leveraging GenAI to improve productivity:
    • Test generation and automation helpers
    • RAG-based developer assistants
    • Workflow automation using agents
  • Ensure AI features are:
    • Reliable
    • Secure
    • Easy to adopt by engineering teams

Operations & Reliability

  • Own operational health of platform services:
    • Monitoring, alerting, dashboards
    • Incident response and on-call readiness
  • Drive blameless post-incident reviews and follow-ups
  • Track and improve MTTR, availability, and operational toil

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Application teams consuming the platform
    • Peer engineering managers
    • Product and security partners
  • Communicate clearly on progress, risks, and trade-offs
  • Act as the execution owner for platform initiatives defined by leadership

Your Experience

  • 8–12 years of software engineering experience
  • 1–3 years of people or technical leadership experience
  • Strong development experience in Python and/or Go
  • Experience building backend services or APIs (FastAPI or similar)
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Git and modern code review practices
    • CI/CD systems and pipelines
    • Artifact repositories and container registries
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containers
  • Experience working in at least one public cloud
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and incident management skills

Preferred

  • Experience building or operating internal developer platforms
  • Familiarity with GitOps, Helm, and release automation
  • Exposure to GenAI concepts (RAG, agents, prompt orchestration)
  • Knowledge of observability systems (metrics, logs, traces)
  • Understanding of RBAC, IAM, and SDLC security practices
  • Experience with large-scale build or deployment systems

The Team

The CIPE (Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Engineering) team operates as a force multiplier for a global engineering organization of over 2,700 engineers. We manage a complex, polyglot environment (C, C++, Java, Go, Python, etc.) across hundreds of services and a large-scale, cross-cloud infrastructure. Our work is organized into four primary pillars that span the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC):

Our Commitment

We’re problem solvers that take risks and challenge cybersecurity’s status quo. It’s simple: we can’t accomplish our mission without diverse teams innovating, together.
