Although the celebration of International Women’s History Month in 2022 can point to the tremendous progress women have made in the workplace, especially within the last several decades, women still face many obstacles.

Women today still earn less on average than men, still shoulder much of the childcare and household responsibilities and are underrepresented in many career areas, most notably cybersecurity and STEM.

As we honor the past accomplishments of women and look toward the future they have helped pioneer, we’ve asked your Palo Alto Networks colleagues to share their take on quotes that inspire them to keep working toward creating a more inclusive tomorrow:

Alex Yakubov

“Well-behaved women seldom make history.” - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

This quote is used a lot and is often misinterpreted. Ulrich wrote about the fact that women who are well-behaved did not get their stories told, even if they did something extraordinary or heroic. That is certainly changing, but this quote serves as an incredible reminder that it takes action for change to happen.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world.” – Marianne Williamson

We are all capable of more than we can even imagine! We are the only ones holding ourselves back. Take risks, dream big, then do the work to make those dreams a reality!

Hemali Patel

Hemali Patel, Associate Systems Engineer

“If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.”

My mentors have led me to success. Their guidance and teachings have led me to opportunities, and to the attainment of knowledge. I am forever thankful and grateful for my mentors and people who have taken a chance on me.

Abdul Musa, Solutions Architect Manager

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond.”

You will always have good and bad days, happy days and sad days, etc. No matter what you go through, the way you react is what really matters. You might not be able to choose what happens to you, but you will always have the power to choose how you react.

Amy Chou, Senior Technical Revenue Analyst

“The power is in the pause.”

Allow yourself space to be with your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Give yourself space to breathe and process.

Nina Smith

Nina Smith, Senior Product Manager

“The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm.”

It means that you have the power within you to craft your life the way you want. You just have to believe in yourself and use your resources.
