I am a systems engineer based in Hong Kong, working closely with enterprise customers to help implement cybersecurity best practices, including approaches such as reference architecture and Zero Trust Enterprise.Β

As systems engineers, we thrive on the dynamic nature of our work, adapting to different priorities and focusing on a variety of tasks. Here’s a typical day in the life of a systems engineer at Palo Alto Networks πŸŒ…:

Learning and Growth

Mornings kick off with replying to emails and finalizing meeting materials, ensuring we are well-prepared for upcoming engagements. To stay ahead of the game, we also dedicate time to studying. We are not just a "Firewall" company, so we are required to develop technical depth in Security Operations, Cloud Security and Network Security. This includes applying for external and internal certifications, which help validate our expertise and enhance our credibility. πŸ†

Customer Engagements

Customer interactions lie at the heart of our work. Here's a glimpse at what might be on the day’s schedule:

  • PoCs (Proof of Concept) involve testing our products with customers to validate proposed solutions. We meticulously prepare for these meetings, often working in the customer's production environment. For instance, I recently conducted a PoC focused on Cortex XDR, collaborating with the customer's red team for attack simulations. Our expertise and in-depth product knowledge shine as we guide customers through the PoC journey. πŸ€πŸ’‘
  • As part of the account team, we organize tailored workshops and EBCs (Executive Briefing Center) for customers. For example, we recently hosted an EBC for an insurance customer. We prepared industry-related topics such as the latest threat landscape in the insurance/finance sector and relevant use cases based on their specific requirements. Additionally, we conduct workshops where customers gain hands-on experience with our products using our UTD (Ultimate Test Drive). These engaging sessions allow us to showcase our latest technology and empower customers to unleash the full potential of our solutions. 🏒πŸ‘₯πŸ’Ό
  • As representatives of Palo Alto Networks, we are occasionally invited to external events as speakers. These speaking engagements provide us with a platform to share our knowledge with a wider audience. Recently, at an AI-related event, as a cybersecurity expert, I had the opportunity to discuss how Palo Alto Networks incorporates AI into our products and how hackers exploit generative AI techniques. πŸŽ€πŸŒπŸ’‘

Systems engineers at Palo Alto Networks engage with diverse customers, gaining deep insights into their industries and addressing their unique security concerns. By staying at the forefront of the latest technologies, we empower organizations to protect their digital assets.
