About The Role
At Palo Alto Networks, we are shaping the cloud-centric and AI-aligned future with technology that transforms the way people and organizations operate. We are looking for a Principal Security Architect to serve as a technical authority for our multi-cloud security strategy.
In this high-impact role, you will define the architectural "North Star" for our cloud-native platforms, ensuring our products are secure by design. You will act as a "player-coach," driving complex threat modeling initiatives and steering the architectural direction across GCP, AWS, Azure, OCI, and SAP environments. You will partner deeply with engineering leadership to embed security into the DNA of our next-generation security products.
Security Strategy & Architecture
Multi-Cloud Blueprint: Define and maintain the authoritative security architecture patterns for our services across GCP, AWS, Azure, and OCI, and SAP. You will dictate how we leverage native cloud security controls vs. our own proprietary protections.
Secure by Design: Lead the design of secure, scalable, and resilient systems. You will champion "Security by Design" principles, ensuring isolation, identity management (IAM), and data protection are baked into the infrastructure from day one.
Zero Trust Implementation: Drive the architectural strategy for Zero Trust adoption across our development environments and production SaaS platforms.
Threat Modeling & Risk Management
Advanced Threat Modeling: Own the threat modeling methodology for the organization. You will facilitate deep-dive threat modeling sessions for critical features, identifying attack vectors in complex distributed systems before code hits production.
Risk Quantification: Actively identify architectural risks and technical debt. You will translate these findings into actionable items for the Cybersecurity Risk Register, communicating the business impact of technical vulnerabilities to executive leadership.
Product Security Expertise: Leverage your deep knowledge of security products (e.g., CWPP, CSPM, NGFW) to advise product teams on how to best architect their solutions to withstand modern adversary TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures).
Technical Leadership & Enablement
Engineering Mentorship: Provide high-level guidance to Staff and Senior security engineers. Foster a culture of rigorous engineering excellence and proactive security thinking.
Cross-Functional Steering: Lead "Tiger Teams" and cross-functional squads through complex security implementations, serving as the bridge between Developer, Product Engineering, and Infosec Teams.
Qualifications
Your Experience (Required Skills)
Experience: 8+ years of experience in security engineering and/or security architecture, with at least + years acting in a Principal or Lead capacity.
Cloud Fluency: Deep, hands-on architectural expertise in public cloud environments. Must have mastery in at least one major provider (GCP, AWS, Azure, OCI, or SAP) with a strong working knowledge of the others.
Threat Modeling: Proven track record of executing complex threat models (STRIDE, PASTA, or similar frameworks) for microservices and serverless architectures.
Experience securing AI/ML ecosystems, with a deep understanding of adversarial machine learning attacks and defenses for Large Language Models (LLMs).
Ability to design secure architectures for high-scale data training environments and define governance standards for Generative AI integration.
Security Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of the security vendor landscape. Experience designing or extensively using CSPM (Cloud Security Posture Management), CWPP, or Container Security platforms.
Code: Proficiency with scripting language as Python/Go and experience securing CI/CD pipelines.
Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate technical risk to executive audiences and negotiate architectural trade-offs with product owners.
Must-Have Knowledge, Skills, and Experience (specifically):
- Must Demonstrate Sophisticated, Deep Knowledge And Hands-On Experience With Modern Secure-By-Design and Privacy-By-Design and Zero Trust (Principles And Practices).
- Must Demonstrate Sophisticated, Deep Knowledge And Hands-On Experience With Well-Architected Frameworks (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their Security Pillars.
- Must Demonstrate Sophisticated, Deep Knowledge And Hands-On Experience With Modern STRIDE, PASTA, DREAD methodologies and MITRE, CWE, CAPEC, CVE, NIST, OWASP security frameworks and standards.
