Sweet Success: Meet Three Bakers on the Palo Alto Networks Israel Team

From securing networks to mastering sourdough and pastries, our team has some sweet talents! We caught up with Romi, Ben, and Moshik in at Palo Alto Networks in Israel to learn about their passion for baking.

Romie, Sr. People Business Partner 🎂

How did it all start? A decade ago, I started baking by learning from YouTube videos. I began with simple cakes and cupcakes for family and friends' birthdays, and then started giving cakes as gifts. I have baking tools from all over the world and a 10-year-old mixer named Moshe.

What's the craziest thing you've ever baked? All my cakes are made with American butter, and I've made cakes for every possible age, from one to 95. My craziest project was a 6-tier cake I made for my cousin's Bar Mitzvah.

What's your dream dessert? Without a doubt, a croissant.

Benzi, Sr Staff Data Engineer 🍩

How did it all start? I've always loved the world of baking, with a focus on doughs, croissants, babka, and donuts. I watch a lot of videos and learn a ton from them.

What's the craziest thing you've ever baked? Two things come to mind. The first is a pastry called a kouign-amann, which is a type of croissant dough folded with sugar, creating an incredibly crispy pastry. The second is a cinnamon roll donut like the ones from Krispy Kreme, which is a type of donut rolled in cinnamon and brown sugar and coated with a glaze. I made these for my wife and kids for Hanukkah and they loved them!

Tell us a secret baking tip: Just take your time. You can't improvise in baking; you need to work slowly, patiently, and follow the recipe. It won't always work on the first try, so it's important not to give up and to keep trying.

Moshik, Mgr, Low Level Engineering 🥖

What's the craziest thing you've ever baked? Definitely sourdough bread. It might sound simple, but it's a serious production that requires a lot of preparation: from properly growing the starter to precise use of ingredients and a technique that creates the perfect loaf.

What's your baking dream? To achieve the perfect healthy bread. I love excellent bread, but it's also important to me that it has good nutritional value. I would love to make a loaf that is airy and soft on the inside with a crust on the outside, and is truly, truly delicious.

Tell us a secret baking tip: Get your sourdough starter from someone who knows what they're doing. This is a tip I got from Udi Galili, who is a sourdough guru.
