Arriving in the cybersecurity world

I have worked in IT for almost 25 years in various positions with different responsibilities. Each stage along the way has been critical for the next step. Starting as a System Administrator, being a technical instructor, and finally becoming a technical consultant for almost 10 years. My last stage before joining Palo Alto Networks was a technical pre-sales position for an SD-WAN solution.

My journey as a systems engineer at Palo Alto Networks began two and half years ago, covering the commercial and regional market in Germany. After about a year, I had the opportunity to move internally to work more strategically with slightly larger clients. What I didn't know was that this position was just the transition into something new. Now, in the new technical sales motion, I'm a Strata Domain Consultant focusing on NGFW, Routing and SD-WAN. Sometimes things just fall into place, because now I work more technically and also in areas where I have much more experience. For almost twenty years I’ve worked in the area of Routing and Switching. Now, it feels right. Even though it has been less than three years, it seems like an eternity. So much has already changed and will continue to change.

Why Palo Alto Networks? Well, we are the market leader in cybersecurity, it's that simple. A bit more seriously: We are innovative, disruptive and leading in securing the way forward in the use of AI. It’s a privilege to work alongside such talented and passionate people and have an environment where learning is actively encouraged. In addition, the collaboration in my local team is amazing. We have so many great people, each with a lot of experience and they are experts in their field.

It is important to say that I can pursue my own personal goals outside of work. I love to be flexible and my job allows me to find a great balance of work and family life. When I'm not sitting at my desk or we're doing something as a family, I really enjoy doing endurance sports. It all started with preparing for the first marathon, then came the second and now it's leading to something new, a new chapter with learning freestyle swimming. This will hopefully lead to me being able to complete my first triathlon olympic distance competitively in 2026. I think regular exercise helps my ability to focus on objectives in both my personal and professional life.

And so we come full circle. Many years ago I finished my degree with a thesis on IPSec and now I’m here at Palo Alto Networks and help our customers to be safe now and in the future. I'm looking forward to many more years here.
