The CAMP Journey: Acceleration from Day One

The Career Acceleration & Mentorship Program (CAMP) is designed to equip emerging professionals with the critical skills and knowledge needed to thrive as Systems Engineers. We spoke with Academy Systems Engineer BJ about how this program has shaped his technical perspective.

You joined Palo Alto Networks through the CAMP program. What has that experience been like so far?

"CAMP has been an incredibly intense and unique experience. From day one, it felt like being dropped into an environment designed to accelerate both my technical depth and my ability to solve complex problems. The program provided me with a strong peer network right away — a group of people who are all learning, building, and pushing each other at the same time.

One of the biggest shifts for me has been moving beyond just understanding concepts and theory to actually applying what we learn in real lab environments — working with firewalls, Panorama, SASE concepts, and real-world architectures. That hands-on experience has completely changed how I think about security, not just as a collection of products, but as a platform and a strategy."

How has Palo Alto Networks supported your growth and learning?

"The enablement culture at Palo Alto Networks is real. Between the structured CAMP curriculum, the labs, the internal resources, and the people around you, you’re never stuck learning in isolation. There’s a strong emphasis not just on knowing what the technology does, but on understanding why it matters to customers."

What excites you most about what’s ahead?

"I’m most excited about continuing to grow into someone who can bridge deep technical understanding with clear, simple explanations for customers. I’m also passionate about creating content and resources — internally and externally — that help make complex security topics easier to understand.

Long-term, I want to be someone who helps raise the technical bar for the next wave of engineers, the same way CAMP and the people here have done for me. Being at a company that’s shaping the future of cybersecurity — especially with AI and platformization — makes it incredibly motivating to be part of what’s being built here."
