Shaping What's Next in Cybersecurity at the Palo Alto Networks India Development Center

At Palo Alto Networks, we believe the best way to predict the future is to build it. That belief came alive during Crucible 3.0, our annual innovation ideathon. Crucible is designed to give engineers across the India Development Center the time and space to experiment, question assumptions, and build beyond the roadmap.

Over the past month, 35 cross-functional teams across our India Development Center came together - they challenged assumptions, argued through trade-offs, and turned early ideas into 44 working concepts that moved steadily from whiteboard thinking to something tangible.

What made this year especially interesting was the starting point. Teams didn’t work in isolation or blue-sky fantasy mode. They took cues from our product roadmap and pushed it further, stress-testing what’s possible and reimagining how cybersecurity needs to evolve next.

AI naturally became a big part of that conversation. More than three-quarters of the submissions used AI in some form, not for novelty, but to solve real security problems that customers and teams grapple with every day.

The ideas clustered around three areas where the challenges are very real:

  • Next-gen security: securing AI runtimes, LLMs, and autonomous agents
  • Smart productivity: using GenAI to help customers and developers work faster and smarter
  • Enhanced observability: turning dense security data into insights people can actually act on

Crucible also reminded us why the India Development Center plays a critical role in how Palo Alto Networks innovates. This is a space where early-career engineers and seasoned experts work side by side, ownership is encouraged, and good ideas aren’t limited by title or tenure.

We’re proud of every team that stepped into Crucible 3.0, not just for what they built, but for the curiosity, rigor, and honesty they brought to the process. That’s how meaningful innovation happens here: one tough problem, one bold idea, and one team at a time.
