One Year Making a Difference with the Public Sector Team in Germany

Starting my apprenticeship in IT 20 years ago, it was a logical choice for me: Make your hobby a profession! Unfortunately, this made fiddling around with computers, trying to solve errors or deploying AV from a USB-stick tedious work, and not something fun to achieve after school was over.

I didn’t realize it then, but I do now – it was passion that drove me to become a cybersecurity support guy first, then start working in professional services, and finally switch over to quite a unique pre-sales role. My passion: Let's make better security become a reality.

For this I implemented my own regular reality checks, and sometimes they came upon me by themselves, opening up my eyes to evolve and learn something new. And within cybersecurity, these moments can come aplenty, from malware outbreaks while working at a customer, from newly created threats and the day-by-day growth of complexity.

This led to me joining Palo Alto Networks as a Solutions Consultant for Public Sector, however I translate it to “Security Architect” in front of the customers. In this role, I am allowed to work closely with the most critical organizations in my home country, and in the most forward looking way possible. I am able to solve modern challenges with the newest innovations from Palo Alto Networks, that don’t just focus on pin-point problems, but real architectural changes, that allow these organizations to adopt new technologies safely and that help create resilience against advanced threats.

So let’s do a reality check after working for a year at Palo Alto networks together: My passion is higher than ever. The eye-opening moment came from a customer, and I paraphrase: “We keep society safe. If one of our services fails, it could lead to civil unrest.” This underlines what positive impact my work has on all of the people, especially those in my home country. Second to that, a feeling of accomplishment is very present, as a key MSSP partner stated that with our technology, their efficiency has risen quite significantly. And coming from a professional services background, this is the highest praise you can get.

Where does this put my reality check: It is a bright green, as I just have started my journey at Palo Alto Networks, and together with the well experienced and motivated teams around me, there are still a lot of moments of accomplishment in front of us!
