Joining Palo Alto Networks in Japan

I partner with sales to deliver comprehensive solutions to address the security challenges of our assigned clients. As a technical advisor, I build strong trust with clients while supporting sales activities. In addition to conducting demos and assisting with product evaluations across Palo Alto Networks’ wide product range, I also propose solutions that integrate various products in our portfolio.

I started my career at an electrical CAD/EDA vendor. After 11 years, I moved to a major global PC vendor, where I spent about nine years as a pre-sales engineer for PCs, thin clients, cloud services, and security solutions. In 2021, I transitioned to an endpoint security vendor, where I worked as a sales engineer focusing on developing the sales department and partner network. Leveraging my experience, I joined Palo Alto Networks in February 2024 to explore a new technical field. With extensive pre-sales SE experience, I value adopting a sales mindset and staying current on new technology and industry knowledge as an engineer. I also prioritize explaining new technologies clearly and engagingly, using my broad experience as a strength.

The interview process was smooth, thanks to the attentive recruiter, which minimized stress. I appreciated the brief feedback from the recruiter after each interview. While there were multiple interview rounds, I saw this positively as it allowed me to understand the work style and atmosphere and speak with various interviewers in different roles. Each interview was conducted in a relaxed manner, making it easy to have a conversation without feeling overly tense.

After joining, I participated in various training programs, including office-based training, online modules, and on-site training at the U.S. headquarters to learn about the company and its products. Online training covered diverse topics such as cybersecurity trends, company history, product overviews, and threat trends. Engineers also received training on product functionalities, demo environments, and scripts, along with access to test environments to conduct hands-on testing.

While most training materials are in English, making familiarity with English beneficial, perfection isn’t necessary; many colleagues are learning English while on the job. The environment is supportive, with easy access to colleagues and supervisors for advice, and strong lateral connections within the team, making follow-up in the field readily available.

こんにちは！今回は、パロアルトネットワークスでソリューション・コンサルタントとして活躍する末松隆郎 (Takao Suematsu) さんをご紹介します。彼のキャリアの歩みや、入社後の経験、これから応募を考える方へのアドバイスなど、リアルな声をお届けします。

末松さんのキャリアについて

末松隆郎さんは、現在エンタープライズ事業本部ソリューション技術部でソリューション・コンサルタントとして勤務しています。主に、営業チームと連携し、顧客のセキュリティ課題に対する包括的なソリューションを提案されているそうです。製品のデモや評価支援を通じて、顧客と強い信頼関係を築きながら課題解決を支援されています。

末松さんはこれまで、電気系CADやネットワークエンジニアとしてのキャリアを皮切りに、大手外資系PCベンダーやエンドポイントセキュリティ企業でプリセールスエンジニアやセールスエンジニアとして経験を積み上げてきました。さらに、グローバルチームと連携し、新製品や新サービスの立ち上げにも携わるなど、幅広い知識と経験を持っています。

オンボーディング体験について

入社後は、オフィス研修やオンラインでの製品トレーニング、さらには米国本社での現地トレーニングが提供されるなど、充実したオンボーディング体験が提供されたそうです。トレーニングは、サイバーセキュリティの基礎知識から製品デモの実践スクリプトまで幅広く、自己学習用の検証環境も整っていたと話してくれました。

ただし、ほとんどが英語で提供されるため、英語に抵抗がない方がスムーズに取り組めるとのことでした。とはいえ、先輩社員も学びながらスキルを伸ばしているため、完璧である必要はありません。横のつながりが強く、チームで助け合う文化が根付いているため、安心して相談できる環境も魅力の一つだと語ってくれました。

面接体験について

面接プロセスについても「ストレスフリーでスムーズだった」と話す末松さん。各面接後にはリクルーターから簡単なフィードバックをもらうことができ、次の面接に向けた準備をしやすかったと振り返ります。面接回数は多かったものの、入社後の働き方やチームの雰囲気を具体的にイメージできたことが良かったポイントだそうです。

入社後の６ヶ月間の様子について

入社から約6ヶ月が経過した今、末松さんは「フォロー体制の手厚さ」を実感しているそうです。入社直後のタイミングで未経験の技術分野に取り組む必要がありましたが、製品担当エンジニアに相談し、サポートを受けながら進めることができています。一人で抱え込むのではなく、チームで補完し合う文化があることを肌で感じたといいます。

これから応募する方へのメッセージ
