Alexis, a Product Manager at Palo Alto Networks, shares career advice and her early-in-career experience

Alexis recently celebrated two years as a Product Manager at Palo Alto Networks, where she is currently part of our NetSec R&D team in California. She shares her career advice, why this is the place to learn and grow, and who inspires her!

What is one piece of advice you wish you could have given yourself before starting your career?

One piece of advice I wish I could've given myself is to be fearlessly curious. Entering a new role or project, especially as a new grad, is very daunting. Sometimes, you may feel nervous asking the "dumb" questions or may not be willing to speak up in meetings. You will grow exponentially faster if you just jump right in and ask because aside from personal and professional learning, one of two great things will happen: someone else will thank you quietly for asking their same question or everyone gets more clarity and knowledge on the task ahead.

What should people know about learning and growing in their careers at Palo Alto Networks?

Palo Alto Networks is at the forefront of cutting edge and best-in-class cybersecurity products, and being a market leader alone already makes it one of the best places to learn and grow. I have been given such great ownership over projects that I could not get anywhere else as a product manager and with that, I have been able to work with the best teams in the industry. I constantly learn something new and am challenged to build excellent products for our customers that help make each day safer and more secure than the one before.

Who is someone at Palo Alto Networks who inspires you?

I have to be honest: I have gotten so lucky with the teammates and mentors I have crossed paths with at Palo Alto Networks because every person I have interacted with has inspired me in some way. Although, someone who inspired me early on in my career here is May Wang (CTO of IoT Security)! May mentored me throughout my very first year here at the company, and she is a trailblazer in her own right. Her advice and guidance not only helped accelerate my career and projects, but also aided in my personal development.
