Why People and Technology Define Robert’s Journey at Palo Alto Networks

For Robert, a Domain Consultant in Sweden, relationships play a central role in his success at Palo Alto Networks. As the cybersecurity industry continues to evolve, it is essential that Robert’s colleagues and customers know they can rely on him. As Robert explains, Palo Alto Networks’ employees–and customers have “one thing in common: they are serious about cybersecurity.”

In the following blog, Robert discusses his commitment to open communication with his customers, his own continuous improvement, and what makes his work so rewarding. Read on for more from Robert.

Robert’s Story

At Palo Alto Networks, two things consistently stick out above everything else: our people and our technology. Coming from a background in technical support and professional services, it is especially important to me that I can truly rely on the technology I deliver. It is incredibly important to me to be able to be completely honest with my customers, and not sugarcoat or overpromise. In this industry, anything else will eventually come back and hurt your credibility and trust.

Because of that, it's vital to me that our technology can prove itself operationally and reliably prevent, not just detect, advanced threats inline. When you focus on true inline prevention rather than just generating more alerts, the administrative burden on the customer is significantly lower. It means our customers can actually sleep better at night - and I get to see this in action and introduce new customers to this reality every day.

We don't have to hide behind theory, slides, or pretty pictures; instead, we prefer live workshops, hands-on labs, and real demos that actually work. When I moved to Presales people told me I would lose my technical hands-on experience, but I'm still constantly building, researching, testing and evaluating. There is always a GUI and a console ready on my screen.

Transforming Architecture Through Long-Term Relationships

What I truly appreciate at Palo Alto Networks is that long-term relationships pay off. Customer needs, requirements, and our own products and technologies are constantly evolving. For both existing and prospective customers, there is a massive need to explain our solutions and map out exactly how they would work within their unique environments.

These are not just install-and-forget technologies; they are the beginning of a consolidated, comprehensive cybersecurity platform that takes time and knowledge to get right, optimize, and integrate with other solutions - for example, identity directories, VPN client installations, and cloud providers.

The most rewarding part of my job is when you can take an old mindset, old architecture, and old way of thinking, and transform it into something modern that dramatically improves the customer's reality. Because I can always be honest about what our technology can do, we build real, lasting trust with our customers. Every customer and employee has one thing in common: they are serious about cybersecurity. This means we share a common goal and direction, making them willing to receive advice, adapt, and constantly evolve with the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape. It's also a lot of fun.

Freedom, Trust, and Always Having Each Other’s Backs

If you are looking to join the team in my region, you can expect an environment defined by trust, collaboration, and inclusion:

Autonomy to Deliver: I am given the total freedom and flexibility to form my own work - choosing how, where, and when I do it. PANW trusts me to adapt my day to my personal strengths, regional premises, and specific customer needs.

Continuous Improvement: Because every customer situation is unique, I am constantly learning, improving, and growing, backed by the full confidence of my team.

A True Team Culture: In our region, it really feels like we are moving in the same direction toward a shared goal. I feel deeply valued and appreciated by both my team and my customers.

The biggest takeaway for anyone looking to apply? You are never alone here. No matter the situation, there is always someone to have your back, and always people willing to follow you down any technical rabbit holes.
