Making an Impact and the Art of Asking the Right Questions: Raksha’s Internship Journey

Today, we are spotlighting Raksha, a Technical Support Intern with our Global Customer Support (GCS) team in India. From her first 90 days in networking labs to developing internal automation tools that streamline global threat intelligence lookups, Raksha’s journey is a testament to the power of curiosity and a supportive environment. She has quickly mastered the "art of asking the right questions" to navigate complex technical hurdles and deliver results that enhance efficiency for our support engineers worldwide.

Take us through your internship journey so far. Have you had a “Wow, I’m really making an impact here” moment?

My first 90 days have been a total whirlwind, starting with fundamental training and hands-on networking labs where the trainers actively used our feedback to shape the sessions. A major highlight was visiting the hardware labs to see the physical firewalls, which made the theory finally click. I am now working on an internal automation tool designed to streamline threat intelligence lookups and log parsing, which significantly enhances efficiency for our support engineers.

My "wow" moment came while developing a feature for our internal threat platform that consolidates security vulnerability data and threat details into a single view. After navigating some tough technical hurdles with system integration, seeing the mentors genuinely impressed during our sync-up presentation was a turning point. It made me realize that my work was directly improving how our team manages and tracks security threats globally.

What’s one thing about the Palo Alto Networks culture that genuinely surprised or inspired you during your internship?

One thing that genuinely inspired me is how approachable everyone is, regardless of their role or title. I love that I can approach anyone with a question and be met with a genuine effort to help me understand. It’s been amazing to see the team listen so patiently, which makes me feel valued from day one; that culture of openness is incredibly motivating.

What skill (technical or soft) do you believe is critical for interns to be successful at Palo Alto Networks?

Halfway through my internship, I realized that the most critical skill for success here is the art of asking the right questions. It is important to speak up when you are stuck, but I have found that the real value comes from doing my own research first so I can seek help with a specific problem in mind. This approach respects everyone’s time and leads to much deeper, more technical discussions with my mentors. Mastering this balance has helped me solve problems faster and really lean into the collaborative culture here.

It’s important for all of us to be able to disconnect after a productive day at the office. What have you done to help maintain a work/life balance?

One hobby I have cultivated recently is journaling my wins every day in a notebook. Every evening, I write down one new thing I learned at the office and why it counts as a win, which turns every challenge into a source of inspiration. To stay balanced, I’ve made running a daily habit and even started learning to play snooker in the office with my fellow interns. This mix keeps me energized and genuinely excited for whatever comes next.
