Internship Spotlight: Arman Graduates From Academic Theory to Real-World Impact

At Palo Alto Networks, our internship programs are designed to be more than just a learning experience; they are a launchpad for the next generation of cybersecurity leaders. Today, we are spotlighting Arman, a Technical Support Intern with our Global Customer Support (GCS) team in India. Halfway through his internship, Arman has already transitioned from configuring physical firewalls to building an automated threat analysis platform.

You’re halfway through your internship journey with Palo Alto Networks. What has the onboarding process been like? What surprised you?

My first 90 days have been an incredible ride, jumping straight out of academic theory and right into the real-world deep end. We started with intense, hands-on networking labs, actually watching live packet flows and configuring physical firewalls instead of just reading about them. Now, I’m working with my team to build an automated threat analysis platform from the ground up. The absolute best part is knowing this isn't just a practice exercise; it’s going to be deployed directly to the threat team.

I expected a high-pressure environment, but I was genuinely surprised by the supportive culture and the well-structured intern program. Having a dedicated "buddy" also helped me untangle both technical roadblocks and everyday questions, and it made the whole transition from campus to corporate incredibly welcoming.

You’re getting some hands-on experience with your internship. Tell us about a moment or project where you felt, "Wow, I’m really making an impact here."

A major highlight was demoing our new "Smartscan" feature to team leads after successfully integrating several global threat intelligence APIs into the platform. When we hosted the tool live, our leadership team recognized our efforts with a performance reward, which was a huge motivator. The best part was the realization that our code will be used by threat engineers in real-time to help secure our global digital society.

What has been one of your biggest takeaways from this experience so far?

While college often feels like a solo effort, I quickly learned that working in Global Customer Support is a true team sport. During our mock customer training calls, I realized that technical knowledge about firewalls matters most when combined with the ability to collaborate. The most critical skill here is the willingness to team up fearlessly with others to solve complex problems and get the customer back online.

Beyond work, what keeps you inspired?

Honestly, what keeps me inspired is the thrill of getting hands-on and chasing that classic “ahaaa!” moment away from my keyboard. To completely unplug, I love losing myself in the outdoors. I recently did an amazing sunrise trek up Skandagiri Hills, and I keep my daily energy up by jogging around Byrasandra Lake. But my absolute biggest obsession right now is in the kitchen. I am on a hardcore mission to master the perfect biryani. Getting the exact balance of spices and that flawlessly cooked rice takes just as much patience and as troubleshooting as configuring a stubborn firewall! Having that creative outlet keeps my mind fresh and totally energized for the workweek.
